Do we cut children's hair?

Being a family business we understand the importance of family!

We love nothing more than looking after you and your family!

So in short….yes we do offer children’s hair cuts at HEIR Salon.

However, this blog is here to clear up some other questions regarding children’s hair cuts: mainly the price!

At HEIR a big factor regarding price is time of appointment.

We don’t necessarily charge for the age or gender of the customer, we try to work all prices on time of service, cost of stock, VAT and wage cost.

This is why a gents haircut (which usually takes less time than a ladies hair cut) is a bit cheaper.

We also have different prices for a blow dry and a curly blow dry - because a curly blow dry takes longer.

So pricing children can be difficult and it can be a topic which causes question.

We want to remove the anxiety and stress for both the customer and our team so here is the pricing strategy explained in full to avoid any confusion!

Prices for children start at £15

Children cuts can vary massively, from a 2 year old with fine baby hair to a 12 year old with more hair then a 20 year year old - of course one will take a lot longer than the other.

If the appointment takes the same amount of time as a ladies cut and finish, due to length/thickness/washing/blow drying then the price will be the same.

This is not because we like to work at a snail pace, we always aim to work in commercial timing.

The reason is simple; if we booked a cut and finish which took over 45 minutes but only charged £15 then by the time we have deducted VAT and salon operation costs, the team member will have earned less than minimum wage. Which is obviously not acceptable.

It’s the same principle as going to a restaurant.

A children’s meal is priced accordingly, if your child had a bigger appetite and wanted something from the main menu, then you would expect to pay for the extra food, preparation and care.

We recommend checking the price upon booking. You might be asked about hair length, thickness and required finish.

This is the receptionist trying to figure out the length of the appointment to quote accordingly.

Of course, without seeing the childs hair in person, a quote over the phone is an estimate, so on the day of your childs appointment, if there is a difference in price, we will let you know before we start the service.

Here are a couple of tips if you do not want to pay premium prices for your little cherub!

  1. Don’t book in with a top level of stylist. Maybe ask if there is a junior stylist free for the appointment. These levels of hairstylists tend to be cheaper.

  2. Skip the wash/blow dry. Is is possible to opt for a dry cut?

We hope this has taken away any questions or uncertainties when it comes to your children’s hair appointments at HEIR Salon!
