FAQ’s
Career Progression: What specific opportunities for career progression are available?
At HEIR Salon, we believe in supporting each team member's unique career journey. There are clear pathways to progress into higher roles, whether you aspire to become a senior stylist, move into education, or explore other leadership opportunities. We hold regular appraisals every quarter, where we work with you one-on-one to help you achieve your personal goals and advance along your chosen career path. With multiple opportunities for growth, your progression is shaped by your individual preferences and ambitions.
What type of stylist are you looking for?
We’re looking for an experienced hairdresser who is confident in cutting short hair and skilled in both colour and cutting services. While it’s not essential for the stylist to be qualified in extensions, experience in colour and cutting is a must. We're seeking someone who is passionate, creative, and ready to thrive in a busy, dynamic salon environment.
Training Details: You mention training and development opportunities, what does this look like in practice?
At HEIR Salon, we prioritise continuous learning and development. We offer in-salon training once a week, which is primarily for apprentices, but all team members are welcome to join in. We also collaborate with our stockists for additional training and regularly bring in external specialists for focused sessions on areas such as curls, hair loss, and scalp concerns. You’ll have access to online training portals for on-demand education throughout the year. For those looking to showcase their skills, we organise and encourage participation in various competitions and awards. We’re actively engaged in the hairdressing community, attending industry events and holding fellowship memberships, ensuring that our team stays connected and inspired.
Work-life Balance: The page mentions flexible hours, but how flexible are they?
At HEIR Salon, we take pride in offering truly flexible working arrangements. No two team members have the same schedule—we work with you to create a work plan that fits your life and commitments. If things change, we are more than happy to adjust your hours. We understand the importance of maintaining a healthy work-life balance and take a proactive approach to support this, ensuring you can thrive both personally and professionally.
Client Base: How busy is the salon on average? How quickly would I be able to build or take over a client base?
The position isn’t about taking over an existing client base but rather building your own. We have a loyal, repeat clientele, and the salon is growing steadily year on year. To support new stylists, we have marketing strategies and campaigns in place to attract a consistent flow of new, ideal clients. Our goal is to fill your column with the services you love, whether you're passionate about niche specialisations or general hairdressing. This ensures you're doing the work that excites you, while we help you build a thriving client base.
Uncapped Earning Potential: How does the commission structure work?
All stylists receive a basic wage, based on age and hours worked, but our commission structure is designed to be genuinely uncapped. Unlike many salons, we don’t set confusing or demotivating targets. Instead, every stylist takes home 40% of their net takings or their basic wage—whichever is higher. This means you can significantly increase your earnings without the pressure of unrealistic targets, ensuring you’re rewarded fairly for your hard work and talent.
Team Dynamics: What is the current team size, and how do you support new members as they integrate into the salon culture?
Our current team is made up of 10 members, including apprentices, stylists, and management. To help new stylists integrate into our salon culture, we first offer a trade test day. This allows you to work alongside the team and experience our working environment before making a commitment. We also hold weekly team meetings and have a comprehensive onboarding procedure in place from your first day. You’ll receive on-hand support daily, ensuring a smooth transition and a welcoming atmosphere as you settle in.
Day-to-Day Support: What software and systems do you use to help manage bookings, client communications, and other admin tasks? What is the day to day running of the salon like?
At HEIR Salon we have a Salon coordinator who manages all day to day running of the salon. We use a salon software called Vagaro to run the business efficiently. This system handles appointments, stock control, and client communications, ensuring everything runs smoothly. We also utilise HR software, allowing you to easily request annual leave and track your holiday allowance. As an employed stylist at HEIR Salon, your admin responsibilities are minimal—beyond keeping client colour and appointment notes up to date, everything else is managed for you. Simply turn up and enjoy working in a well-organised, efficient environment.
Tools and Products: Are all the tools and products I’ll need provided, or will I need to bring any of my own?
We provide everything you need, from cutting collars and tint to shampoo and hairdryers. You’ll only need to bring your own scissors, brushes, combs, and clips. All stock and products are supplied and replenished weekly, ensuring you always have what you need to perform at your best.
Parking/Transport: Is there convenient parking or public transport access for staff, especially since the salon is in a busy area?
Yes, there’s convenient parking directly outside the salon. We’re also located on popular bus routes, with a bus stop just a couple of minutes away, making it easy to access the salon whether you drive or use public transport.
Trial Period: Is there a probationary period when joining the salon? If so, how long is it, and what are the expectations during this time?
Yes, there is a six-month probationary period when joining the salon. During this time, we’ll conduct regular reviews to ensure that both you and the salon are happy with the position, hours, and employment package. This is an opportunity to make sure everything is working well for both parties before moving forward permanently.
On boarding: Do you offer any specific on boarding or training for new team members to help them integrate smoothly?
Yes, every new team member begins with an on boarding session on their first day. During this time, we cover the salon manual, procedures, HR processes, and other essential information. We also hold weekly team meetings to ensure open communication between the team and management. Additionally, we provide training with our suppliers, including colour and retail, to ensure a smooth integration into the salon and our services.
Specialisation Opportunities: Are there any opportunities to specialise in specific areas (e.g., colour, cutting, bridal hair, etc.)
Yes, we offer opportunities for team members to specialise in areas such as colour, cutting, bridal hair, and more, depending on your individual career goals. However, specialising is not essential—if you prefer to remain a more generalised hairdresser, that’s absolutely fine too. We support your career progression based on your personal preferences and passions, whether you choose to niche or offer a broader range of services.
How do I apply and what are the next steps?
Simply fill in our online application form. After we receive your application, we’ll contact you via email or phone for a friendly and informal chat. From there, you’ll be invited to attend an interview and a trade test to showcase your skills and get a feel for our salon.
